Her perfection is eating away at her and she soon turns to alcohol to hide her worries. She’s the one participating in the student/teacher affair. At the beginning it seems that there’s nothing flawed about her.

Juniper-Gluttony Ahh Juniper, where to start. Out of all the characters, in my opinion I related to Claire the most, even though I don’t like to admit it. As humans-especially teens, we all crave attention and friendship and we all get jealous and unreasonable. Like we are with all the characters, but mostly Claire. Although I didn’t like Claire, I have to admit that we all are like Claire in a way. She craves the attention from her friends and needs constant validation that people like her. She acts like a child and is constantly trying to make everything about her. Claire used to date Lucas (I will explain later) but as secrets are revealed she becomes extremely insensitive and jealous. Being based of envy I found her extremely annoying and not understanding. He’s insecure and tired and forced to carry the weight of his family because his parents won’t.Ĭlaire-Envy I must admit Claire was my least favourite. But as the novel continues and Matt’s reasons and relationships develop, he proves to me, like the rest of the characters, that he’s human. Matt-Sloth At the beginning I didn’t like Matt’s character, being the drug addict and throwing away his education. Due to this, she is constantly objectified, but she stands up for herself.

She had a bad reputation for “sleeping around” at school. Olivia-Lust Olivia was one of my favourite characters. Each one based on one of the 7 deadly sins, all with many annoying and unlikeable traits, but each realistic and surprisingly relatable? One of the things that made this novel so genuine were the characters. When a student has been rumoured to be having an affair with a teacher, stories unravel and secrets escape.

It uses the human condition to build a story of heartbreak, loss and sin.ħ ways we lie is set at Paloma Highschool and follows seven characters, who are all flawed in their own way. 7 ways we lie, was thrilling, shocking but realistic.Ī novel that I would classify as one of the best I’ve ever read.
